Year 2

Welcome to Year 2's 2026-2027!

Autumn 1

What a wonderfully busy start to the new academic year it has been! We are absolutely delighted to share that the children have settled into Year 2 brilliantly. Their enthusiasm for learning has been fantastic to see, and they are already deeply engaged in our new topics.

Here is a snapshot of what we have been up to across the curriculum this half term:

✝️ Religious Education (RE)

Our current topic is Creation and Covenant. We began our journey by exploring The Story of Noah (Genesis 6:9-9:17), focusing on Noah's faith and God’s promise to all living creatures through the sign of the rainbow.

Scripture & Song: The children have been learning that psalms are special prayers sung to     praise God, identifying how they form a unique literary style in scripture.

Stewardship: We are currently exploring the concept of 'stewardship'. The children are reflecting on what it means to care for God’s world and are learning about the various communities we belong to.

🔥 History, English and Art

We have travelled back in time to 1666! The children have been magically immersed in the dramatic events of the Great Fire of London. They are doing a fantastic job of imagining life during this momentous historical event.

So far, we have:

Written evocative diary entries and learnt and performed expressive poetry.

We have enjoyed our first class text, the brilliant book Vlad and the Great Fire of London.

🔢 Mathematics

In Maths, we have been building a strong foundation in number confidence:

Place Value: Mastering how to compare and order numbers.

Fractions: Exploring parts of a whole. The children have been working hard to find a whole, a half, a third, and three-quarters of both physical shapes and numerical amounts.

📅 Upcoming Events
